Haiti fact of the day

According to the FBI, Haiti has replaced Colombia as the kidnapping capital of the hemisphere…an estimated 8 to 10 people are kidnapped in Port-Au-Prince every day.

That is from The Miami Herald, 30 December 2005, pp.A1, A12.  On the brighter side, just about all of them have been returned, usually for modest ransoms.
