List of economists in Wikipedia

This is incomplete (it doesn’t list my entry, for instance), but it makes for fun browsing.  Note that Bryan Caplan still makes the cut, despite a debate over whether he is Wikipedia-worthy.  He is a "notable," most of all in my eyes: "It seems to me that the fact that someone would bother to try to delete me is notable per se."

“(it doesn’t list my entry, for instance)” –> Fixed.

This lists are maintained by hand. I fixed some alphabetizing mistakes while I was at it.

Yeah, Acemoglu, Tirole, Kreps, and others of comparable quality are clearly not good enough to be there.

The list is clearly uncomplete. I think the important thing is not to omit notable economists. Who cares if somebody is mentioned even if he should not. I’m not happy with M’s post. I think Tirole and Kreps should be on top of that list. The former is one of the most prolific economists of all times and a pioneer in contract theory, industrial organization and competition policy. Take a look at his 17 pages of publications in top journals. Plus 3 textbooks (Game theory, Io, corp. finance). plus 7 other influential books. (and he is “only” 50) What about Kreps? well… I would say just what you said. It is of comparable quality.

That I am “viewed as a mathematical economist” is mentioned in the
entry for my father, whose name is the same as mine, except for the
“Jr.”
