Here is one article.  For me the essential Ligeti is the Horn Trio (most of all), the piano music, the two string quartets, and the cello and violin concerti.  He is best known for his "Lux Aeterna," which played a critical role in the soundtrack of 2001: A Space Odyssey.  Here are some reports.  Here is Wikipedia.

If you have a chance, go to your music library and check out the score for “Atmospheres”. Every stand in the orchestra has a part, doubled. At several points every instrument in the orchestra is playing a separate note.

More importantly, it makes for good music.

Can’t the piano etudes get a little bit of love here?

I’ll cast a vote for Lux aeterna here. The Requiem made an incredible impression on me the first time I heard it.
