Girard:

This revelation of collective violence as a lie is the earmark of Christianity. This is what is unique about Christianity. And this uniqueness is true.

You don’t have to approve of Charlemagne converting the Saxons by force or the Crusades to be a good Christian.

I am unimpressed. If rejection of collective violence is the key innovation of Christianity a good Christian would have to condemn forcible conversion.

So, Barfy, are you arguing that a male dominated society is keeping women down, or are you arguing that males have a higher IQ standard deviation?

I note, with comment, that Barfy can’t count.

–about disciplines as a whole, about the disciplines where students are taking the most courses, and about trends over time — than the studies that have alleged liberal bias. “I think this article is very much on target and the earlier ones were not,† she said.–

Nothing to see, move along.

Read the sept 4th issue of the New Yorker in the article about Spelke’s Baby Lab. It cites a number of studies that show that men do have a higher standard deviation of IQ (more geniuses and more idiots) while women tend to cluster toward the middle.

With that said, is genius all? I think drive, creativity and plain stick-to-it-nivess creates more value in the world than many geniuses.
