I arrived three hours early and went through six different and thorough searches at the airport; I do look like a drug dealer. By my fourth day it had become clear how many wealthy Colombianas have had plastic sugery, of the disproportionate kind if you get my drift. Colombia now has more people than Spain. The American government freezes the funds of the families of Americans who have been kidnapped. I found Bogotá safer than Madrid.
The Italian edition of Vanity Fair just listed Bogotá as one of the six up-and-coming tourist hotspots; Sibiu, Romania and the Kurile Islands (Russia) also made the list, enjoy.

“The American government freezes the funds of the families of Americans who have been kidnapped.”
I suppose it is obvious, but this sentence made a host of victim punishments make a little more sense to me — more incentive to avoid victimhood, raise price of crime, less crime.
“many wealthy Colombianas have had plastic sugery, of the disproportionate kind if you get my drift.”
I’m afraid I don’t.

Breast implants. Butt “enhancement” is also gaining popularity in Latin America.
Lonely Planet on Columbia
Begging to be discovered, Colombia’s got everything but the crowds! Then in the end they boxed out the personal safety risks
“Travellers should exercise vigilance at all times due to the level of violent crime. Kidnapping and homicide rates in Colombia remain high: about 45 kidnappings per month were reported in 2005. Outside the main tourist areas these dangers are greatly magnified. Areas to avoid include Chocó, Putumayo and anywhere east of the Andes.”
But again some of the travel blogs on Colombia blogs seem to talk about friendly people, amazing bio-diversity, and professional service!
Seems like a great adventure to me.
rvman: So I suppose that the average Colombian is supposed to be identical to the average kidnapper then? That’s some leap you’re making there.
Funny and entertaining story! I’m reluctant to the idea that Bogota is safer than Madrid, though I’ve visited only the Spanish city. They have such great locals, where you can sit in the tub chair all day long.
