I like the post. Although I would recommend not posting such scattered thoughts during the day.

You know, just like how jazz shouldn’t be played during the day but only at night.

I checked out Pratchet’s Thud based on its cover, but couldn’t get into it.

I’m curious what spurred Tyler on to reread the first 150 pages after nearly packing it in. Was it the reviews, or a nagging sense of missing something, or something else completely?

I remember that I started Blood Meridian three seperate times. I always found it captivating through the introduction to the Judge, but then it fizzled out to me. Then I read No Country for Old Men in 2 sittings and The Road in 1, and revisited Blood Meridian. This time I got to within 100 pages of the end before I set it down and forgot to pick it back up.

All that TV really did a number on me. I cannot make it through literary fiction without a strong plot to pull me.
So I’m absolutely enamored with 2 of McCarthy’s “lesser” works, and can only really enjoy some scenes and scattered passages from his concensus masterpiece.

T, I am sad to point out that your post kills the (not long enough) streak of MR posts that don’t mention Jacqueline Passey. She really jumped the shark after the whole “I have high standards but really I only mention it to increase my blog’s advertising revenue” thing. Remind us why her opinion of you is worth commenting about?
