In my opinion, this is rather a roast cockerel pecking Europe’s collective head, as the Russian proverb says. Europe may not like market economics, and it need not follow the strictures internally, but there’s no running away from the consequences of its imbalances on international markets.
My largest trade deficit is with the Federal Government.

I suppose the Fed is taking care of that one for me just fine.
This might be more of a US post of the day than anything else.
1. EU trade deficit with China is smaller than that of the US
2. EU’s total trade deficit is several times smaller than that of the US
3. EU exports to China may be less than those to Switzerland, they are substantially more than US exports to China.
Just goes to show how much Switzerland is dependent on Europe.
However, and that’s just as interesting: Switzerland actually has a positive trade balance with China and they’re not the biggest trade partner by far, either.
