A very well-read waiter

Yes sir, I know what is best, and I will bring it to you.

That was what I heard in The Source, the new Wolfgang Puck restaurant, which is now one of the two best fine dining establishments in an otherwise food-starved Washington D.C.

These overheard words reflects the fact that there is something of an information asymmetry btw. the customer and the waiter – the waiter may really know what’s good to eat at x restaurant, but he may also be trying to unload some food that is about to spoil if not sold that day – how does the customer know before actually being served? – so it’s one of those deals where it helps if you are a repeat customer

lol I followed Tyler’s advice the other day and told my barber, “Whatever you think is best” and he responded, “Well you have to tell me.” So I gave him a description.

Guess what? I wasn’t too happy with the haircut.

The other being … Cityzen?

It is *not* my advice to try this with barbers…see Klein and Leffler, JPE 1974.

I’ve been hearing the cliche that Washington is mediocre dining ciy all my life. It must be that I do not have the palette to discern the 90-99 percentile from the 80-90 percentile, (or the 70-80) but I think there are lots of good restaurants in the D.C. area especially of the mom&pop ethnic variety.

I want to hear more about the “communal dining tables.”
The photo in the link showed the prosaic/banal booths for four.
