People who think that the semi-colon is in decline obviously do not write software for a living.

Semicolons still have a functional place in the English language; even if I’m the only one left using them in my prose, I will continue to use them.

I don’t get the “blame it on English” part; we use semicolons all the time. (See!) It’s the Germans who almost never use them, though I wouldn’t think that would much affect French.
