I can see some truth in this. I visited there last summer and was blown away by the diversity of people, both religious and ethnic. And these days there is an explosion in cultural diversity as you have wealthier Indians adopting more “western” looks and attitudes (pre-marital sex, cosmopolitan clothing) living side by side with more traditional people.
I realize that last point is a hot topic for debate among some anti-globalization-of-values people.
Googling tells me that this quote is a saying that Borges picked up and used, as I thought. It stayed in my mind (I think) from reading it as saying quoted by Kipling; but I have not succeeded in tracking that quote
But can we find India in a grain of sand?
