Sometimes I favor nationalization

There is talk of a state funeral for Margaret Thatcher, for when that sad day comes.

Not everyone agrees:

"Thatcher should only be allowed a state funeral if the contract is put
out to compulsory competitive tender and awarded to the lowest bidder.
Any offers?" was one of the more polite responses from readers.

Margaret Thatcher singlehandedly rescued Britain from mediocrity. And now mediocrities want their revenge.

*State* funeral implies monopoly provision. Expect cost overruns and delays. Good that England is cold.

I get the feeling a lowest-bid pine box is exactly what Ms. Thatcher would prefer. I, for one, would love if there was a bidding war over my pine box — it would be best if someone placed a Coke ad on it and donated it — I don’t want those left to have to foot the bill for a lavish and useless display of public mourning. I suspect a large number of people fall in my camp, and though I don’t know Ms. Thatcher, I suspect she might lean in that direction as well.

Lol, beat the drums and bring on the dirge.

Margaret Thatcher was nasty, divisive and represents everything about the Disunited Kingdom a lot of us would like to forget. She was a dinosaur even in her prime.

When I was a kid in school, we had our MILK SUPPLY at break time threatened by her skinflint ways … we used to chant “Thatcher, Thatcher … the milk snatcher.” How I loathe her soul-less face.

I hope the Brits don’t grant her disreputable remains a state funeral. She won’t be lonely in the afterworld … Pinochet is waiting.

How sad that some people live in countries where the king can threaten their milk money.

Why do you hate social democracy Aengus? Thatcher was a democratically elected leader, and school milk supplies where legitimately controlled by the state… Only a vile, right-wing market worshiping cowboy-capitalist such as yourself would suggest that that the democratic social state was not able to efficiently allocate milk to students!

Enlightened class-consciouses students in Cuba know that questioning the state for not providing milk at break time is nothing less than counter-revolutionary treason! Saying that Thatcher threatened your milk supply is clearly a lie meant to undermine socialism!

Ah, another Brit unfamiliar with Mr.Bastiat.

Nothing the state gives away is “free”. All of it is taken from someone else. What Mrs.T. did was to rightly give taxpayers back their money to spend how they think fit, such as on their children.

Governments should be skinflints, the sooner the British government wakes up and realises this the better.
