Love and hate

I am often skeptical of such studies, but nonetheless I enjoyed seeing this combined headline:

Scientists prove it really is a thin line between love and hate

The same brain circuitry is involved in both extreme emotions – but hate retains a semblance of rationality

I thank Helen for the pointer.

Catullus 85 comes to mind

Odi et amo. Quare id faciam, fortasse requiris.
Nescio, sed fieri sentio et excrucior.

I hate and I love. Why I do this, perhaps you ask.
I do not know, but I sense that it is happening and I am tortured.

Old time theologians and philosophers understood the “opposite” of love isn’t hate, its indifference for a long time, as eugene’s post attests.

I think Adam Smith would’ve greeted this merely confirmatory and mildly amused at the expenditure of effort and expense used to obtain it.

I saw this study previously and my first instinct is that studies like these are kind of pointless and really do serve as bait for journalists so that their work will get attention, notoriety, funding, etc. The mainstream media loves these studies but never really get that correlation =/= causation. (most recently, the MSM’s reporting on teen pregnancy and tv shows featuring sex )

BUT the love/hate study is fun. now when I get drunk emails from my ex, entitled “You Bitch” that say “i miss you evil pants” I shall tell him and his subcortex neuroconverter hate-transmitters to go shove it. :)

In my opinion we should love without any class color ethnic origin and should hate those who are against humanity at large. I am sure I will be back again to read but in these days I am busy in my exam70-648 for Upgrading Your MCSA on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008, Technology Specialist about which I am confident to pass in first attempt because I have already pass 70-237 which is for Pro: Designing Messaging Solutions with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 so I will back again to read more
