Isn’t this Hansonism 101? We create and demonstrate our in-groups by these catchphrases?

If you say the internetz, the intert00bz, or the interwebz, I immediately know your political orientation, rough age range, likely TV watching habits, and a couple of other dimensions about you. It’s a strong signal.

Saying words wrong on purpose = having fun with language. Maybe some insider signaling too but I think it’s mainly just a fun creative behavior that helps make sure people are paying attention. Dr. John is absatively the grand master of this.

Some words I say wrong on purpose with family and certain friends:

Shmahtt (smart) — variation: “Mister shmahtty pahnts.”
parking shpott (parking spot)
ognottin (nothing)
“oab-stah-kel to my use of it” (obstacle, Mises pronunciation and expression)
woid (word) — etc. for any ord word.
DEE-licious
physical policy — nonsense sputtered by jackass
VYE-o-lence {violence, Mises pronunciation)
der shtout (the stout, Mises pronunciation)

James Surowiecki has in interesting blog today on his The Balance Sheet blog at the New Yorker concerning Tyler and his crusade against a stimulus-with the frequent help of Arnold King(I’m sorry, I don’t know how to post links on this board, or even if we’re allowed).
