1. In defense of the corporate jet.

5. Might Brandeis actually be bankrupt?
6. How American Express feels about WalMart customers.

Parts of that corporate jet article sound like the broken window fallacy. In fairness, as a liberal, I wonder how much of the case for stimulus sounds like arguments that the broken window fallacy doesn’t apply in a recession.
That AmEx/Walmart article is a great piece of humor. I would never have imagined that Kevin Drum would take up the cudgels for Walmart.
Nice catch!
Actually, showing a big change in your buying habits over a short period strikes me as a pretty reasonable sign of default risk.
I fail to see the supposed contradiction in the two articles he cites, by the way. If you were setting up a program like that, you’d look for any change in buying habits that had predictive power — WalMart would be the output, not the input. So the program could easily be both a sensible way to manage risk, and not target any specific retailers.
Wasn’t the new Citi jet also intended to replace two older jets that were valued at $27 million each? The tale as I read it said that the two older jets would be sold off to in part or whole pay for the new jet, and a fair amount of savings would be realized. It may not ‘fly’ for those who think Citi shouldn’t have any jets at all, but it’s a far different story than the one told in headlines.
I think the government needs to form a credit card debt clearinhouse called Wally-mae, so Wal*Mart shoppers can get the same credit rating as the rest of us and have their rightful share of the American dream.
DK,
exactly. And that’s why the art world is calling “irresponsible” this sale “into a down market.”
So should I complete the application I got for an AmEx card that came through Costco? Costco doesn’t accept Visa or MC. And the AmEx card would give me 3% back on my purchases at Costco.
If one is paying a CEO big bucks, then you are wasting their time and your money having them stand for an hour in a TSA line being fairly unproductive.
Just pay the 90 bucks to get a Clear pass, or fly first class. Then you wait 10 minutes in line.
