Monetary Policy?

The Federal Reserve has tried all kinds of innovative ideas to stimulate the economy but according to a headline in the NYTimes they will not be trying one of Milton Friedman's more radical ideas:

Helicopter Plan is Excessive, Obama and McCain Agree

I thought spending money was the point. If Obama doesn’t replace his $11 billion helicopter, isn’t he really just hurting the economy?

If the big economic thinkers of this coutnry lead us off a cliff and destroy this country you would think a educated economist at the NYT would see it as his duty to get mad at some point.

Are you not smart enough to see us hurtling towards the cliff or do you just not care?

Oh man, I actually fell for Tyler’s joke. I fully expected the Times article to say that Obama had declared he would not want Bernanke handing out cash to people.

In my defense, I had just read this other Times article talking about the new plan to give $1 trillion to investors in order to encourage reckless borrowing. So you can forgive my credulity.

We are paying $11 billion for helicopters to fly the commander in chief to his airplane.

$11 Billion is bigger than most defense budgets. Israel’s is $10 billion.

the enormous amount of defense spending is surely one place where we can start balancing the budget. after all, most of the deficit is due to the ever increasing defense budget that begin to increase since the invasion of Iraq. It seems only fitting that this would be one of the first places where the Obama administration would see needed cuts to save taxpayers money. It is also uplifting to see that not only liberals see this as a problem. It is good to see that the leaders of this country see that the efforts in the middle east are futile. We need to stop trying to fix all their problems so we can start fixing our own.
