Parisian women and behavioral economics

Psychology is also at work when you look at the women of Paris. The principle at work here is the assumption of style and the amplification of grace. Because you are in Paris, you assume that women are fashion-aware, which colors all your judgments about dress, hairstyle, and other factors of appearance. Because you suppose the most stylish of intentions behind whatever the actual outcome, you will find seductive and ennobling qualities behind almost everything and anyone. What would be a dowdy old hag or a trampy termagant in the wrong part of Baltimore is suddenly the epitome of French cuteness. It’s a sophisticated variant on the “Emperor without cloths” syndrome.

That's from jfl at Ionarts.

Who’s he trying to kid? And the French women of whom he writes aren’t “cute”, for heaven’s sake, they are “chic”.

As so many things are, it’s “Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote” all over again.

I seem to recall that the French have the highest copulation rates in the Western world. That blows my objectivity to smithereens. I wonder what non-French women would say about French men?

Mebbe.

But I don’t think so.

The difference between urban plqces and exurban/small-town in most places swamps the distinctions between countries.

He’s totally off base about the Parisian ladies though. They really do seem to care more.

As for the well earned reputation of the typical American, I’ve lived here for decades, and still can’t comprehend the fatness and slovenliness. It’s quite embarrassing.

N´importe quoi. Saying Parisiennes are fashion conscious yadayada is like saying New Yorkers are sophisticated. Maybe 1%, 2%?

Paris has a population of probably 8-10 million people, half of them women, most of them either working or out of work or retired. That is not, dear old Tyler Cowan, a free ride to fashion consciousness or sophistication.

What a jerk.

This is an interesting idea based on the preconceptions of people about the French people and especially the ladies. If this concept is true, maybe it would be a solution for less attractive women to move to France and become beautiful without having to get breast augmentation Columbus Ohio. But I’m sure that this work just on paper and not in real life :(
