Originally I was going to put this under "Assorted Links" but I decided it deserved its own spotlight. Here is one very good excerpt of many:
During the drive phase, Bolt and the rest of the runners are all leaning forward at an unsustainable tilt, their torsos out ahead of where their feet impact the ground. They are basically in the act of falling down, face-first, but their legs, racing against gravity, are preventing that from happening, propelling them forward so hard and so fast that their bodies, instead of face-planting, begin to slowly rise up into a full upright position. Sprinters often describe this phase, when everything happens correctly, as being analogous to liftoff in an airplane.
Here is another good bit:
His top speed is such a spectacle, so phenomenal, so searing that many who witness this race, who see Bolt cross the line in 9.69 seconds, breaking his own three-month-old world record by three hundredths of a second, don't notice, until they see the replay, what is perhaps the most salient and frightening thing about his performance: Approximately eighty meters into the race, twenty meters from the finish line, Bolt stops trying.

He didn’t ease up in the World Championships a year later, and crushed the record discussed here.
Jamaicans sprinters are almost certainly juicing and a couple were caught last year, who knows about Bolt? Anyway, the greatest athlete in the world is the diminutive demi-god who plays for Barcelona – and who runs almost as fast as Bolt, but with a ball at his feet.
so what if he is juiced? think of how many runners are juiced. why does he beat all the other juiced runners in the world by so much?
when he stops trying, it reminds me of a story about Sid Caesar. Supposedly Sid was well-endowed and got into a contest to prove who was the most well-endowed man. As he’s whipping it out, someone says, “Sid, just show enough to win…”
Part of the reason he stops trying may be because track and field athletes get paid bonuses by promoters for breaking world records. Put differently, he has massive economic incentives to repeatedly break the world record by small amounts. Or it could just be his way of saying that he’s the greatest. He can break the world record without even really trying, out of the people who can break world records, surely only a few are capable of that.
As for juicing, boxing is probably the most interesting sport right now. There you have Floyd Mayweather, a man at the pinnacle of his sport, saying that he will only fight people who adhere to very strict anti-doping regimens. Floyd has a big mouth, and a flamboyant style, but he just may be the man who cleans up one of the most crooked sports.
There is no doubt that Usain Bolt’s top speed is simply significantly higher than anyone else’s, ever….His top speed is such a spectacle…
