Legendary rocker Lou Reed and artist wife Laurie Anderson will next month bring one of the most bizarre performances to Sydney's Opera House — a recital for dogs, largely inaudible to human ears.
At a press conference on Friday the pair said their programme for Sydney's Vivid LIVE arts festival includes an eclectic mix of heavy guitar music, martial arts and music for dogs.
Multimedia artist Anderson said the inspiration for the canine performance came while she was backstage before an event and thought: "Wouldn't it be great, if you were playing a concert and you look out and you see all dogs?
There is more information here. Elsewhere, there is chatter of permanently closing the Sydney Opera House; perhaps it is just a strategic plea for aid.
The Opera house is not going to close, but may receive additional funds from the NSW government.

All the better that it closes as a venue, and as an acoustically poor venue for orchestral cover bands. We can save money by restricting it to it’s primary and best role, as a wonderful piece of public sculpture.

I’ve had backstage thoughts like that too. But mine don’t make it past the back of the stage.
(I used to have a dog. She would rest under my chair while I practiced, howling along. I don’t think she was a very discerning listener.)

‘Metal Machine Music’ was a hideous album released by the same perpetrator of this misdeed, Lou Reed. It was complete random noise, with the added insult of having the last groove double back into itself, and so to play over and over. It revealed Reed’s own self-loathing mentality.So contempt for audiences disguised as art is a pattern with Mr. Reed, a performer whose reputation vastly exceeds his real accomplishments.
