2. A critical take on my Jane St. NBA answer; I stand unbudged, or perhaps even more convinced of my original view, with apologies to Chris Paul.

@3: ungated link.
Why would you call a potentially merged LAN and TAM the world’s biggest airline? It’ll be the biggest airline in South America to be sure, but I don’t believe it’ll be in the world’s top 10 largest (though it’ll be close).
@5 those people were in mortal danger because the rivers flow re-started after only a few hours. Bottom line: whether near a river or an ocean, if the water recedes unusually quickly, get away and to higher ground quickly, because the when the water returns, it may well do so violently.
Here is an excerpt from http://www.niagarafallslive.com/Facts_about_Niagara_Falls.htm : “The flow of water was stopped completely over both falls on March 29th 1848 due to an ice jam in the upper river for several hours. This is the only known time to have occurred. The Falls did not actually freeze over, but the flow was stopped to the point where people actually walked out and recovered artifacts from the riverbed!”
Humans have turned Niagara Falls off before.

“In June 1969, the Niagara River was completely diverted away from the American Falls for several months through construction of a temporary rock and earth dam”
