I live in Singapore. It is both a future non-dystopia, architectural beacon of hope with a ‘very different style of government’…To put in perspective how different, I actually had something else written there but was actually worried that it would be enough for them to sue me for libel…which is a technique which has been employed here previously. However if you are not a citizen the latter is highly unlikely to actually trouble you…but yes…the city is amazing in its modernity

We have a similar thing here in the USofA: Arrested for resisting arrest.
Tax subsidies, yes, but they are getting it back through taxes on the rooms. Rooms start at 309.54 USD, but add 54.79 USD in taxes, for about a 18% tax rate.
My god I hate democracy.

Visitors note: it will cost you S$20 to be allowed to enter the lift to take you to that top level garden and pool area!
I haven’t seen any of the other comments mentioning this, so I thought I’d chime in. How exactly, do they keep you from falling off? Just don’t swim too close to the edge, or what?

They have people down below who will catch you. Like the above poster says, how do you think they keep the water up there? They’re not gonna let all that water go to waste. No, they play it smart.
