Protestors try a new tactic against the Ukrainian police

That is from @Reuterspictures and @pdacosta.

This works because the police probably don’t oppose the pro-EU protests themselves in sentiment. It is their job to keep order, though. So it’s an opportunity for elaborate theater between the police and the protesters – actually angry police would just open fire, and actually angry protesters wouldn’t be driving the tractor so slowly. Both sides get to “do their job”, so to speak.

tl; dr: is a tactic against the police, or is it a tactic for a visible (bright orange, even) stunt?

Police did beat ‘some’ protesters. Something that had not happened in 2004…

At least the protesters seem angry enough to me during that scene:

There are more photographers than protesters in the video, and I’m sure Ukraine is big enough to attract a crowd of 50 miscreants who enjoy the thrill of harassing riot police.

Deluxe version: Driver wears a SCUBA suit. Too vulnerable to a tear gas canister / smoke grenade otherwise.

I don’t know if people care but here is a follow-up and a bit more thoughts on what’s going on… :

Well, this is the poor man’s version of the Soylent Green vision of the state using scooper equipped trucks to get rid of protesters.

And the thing is, a lot of the 100,000 protesters on Sunday were protesting the overly violent reaction of the police to 10,000 protesters on Saturday.

Regardless of whatever sympathy the police have in terms of Ukraine’s future direction, they know that a lot of Sunday’s mass protest was directed against them.

Interestingly, this picture is pretty much of the only area where the police were at all present on Sunday in Kiev, according to German media – in front of President Viktor Yanukovich’s presidential adminstration building.

A building that apparently is still blocked by protesters – in the largest protests since the Orange Revolution –

Equally interesting, not a single word written here about the general strike that has been called.

“here” is not, actually, a comprehensive international news outlet. If you’re disappointed, ask for a refund.

You should see the pro-EU tactics.

No, no one should see that.

NSFW tag missing.

Correct, FEMEN is nsfw. Sorry about that.

16 Peter December 2, 2013 at 12:29 pm

Live Leak has a video of the FEMEN chicks bailing out the proverbial canoe on the president’s picture. Some guys would pay very good money for that to be done in person.

17 Andreas Moser December 4, 2013 at 4:22 am

FEMEN alone are reason enough to have Ukraine in the EU.
