A company called Life Gem is making three diamonds out of DNA taken from Beethoven’s hair, allowing a few lucky people to walk around with literally a piece of the famous composer on their hands. Creepy.
The company can also make diamonds out of less famous corpses, allowing you to carry around a piece of your departed loved one in bling form forever and ever. Or at least until you croak and get turned into a diamond. It’s the circle of life!
Here is the link. And while we’re on the markets topic, here is a neat idea from Japan.

If you want an inexpensive yet “tangible” connection with Beethoven, go sing at a workshop with leading choral composer/arranger John Rutter if ever you get the chance. Rutter offers the opportunity to shake his hand that at nine times removed has been shaken by Beethoven’s (based on a lineage of pupil/teacher relationships etc of which he is part). All for the price of a CD or book, which he’ll also willingly sign of course. You have to have sung through Faure’s Requiem and his own Feel the Spirit, which is a real hardship. But overall I felt my utility was increased.
I will have to agree with that being pretty creepy, but i can see how some people might appreciate that.
I suppose there are some pretty weird people out there. The person who came up with this idea is pretty
much going to be loaded, i can see this as a big thing in the future. Its a little far out for me, but
whatever floats your boat, these diamonds will probably be the norm in the near future.
