The Ed Lazear patent question

In my view not a big deal, but here is the story.

My question wouldn’t be about Ed, but about the patent.

Computers have been used to search for optimized outcomes for 50 years plus. What is being patented here? Is it just, as our system bizarrely supports, the “novel idea” to apply ancient techniques to some “outcome” no one else has gotten around to patenting?

If there is genuine innovation that someone can name, I’ll be happy to stand down.

Without the monopoly protection granted by a patent, innovators would have no incentive to develop ways to lower their tax bills. Duh!

Matt,

If what you write is true, and Mr. Lazear has no monetary interest in Liquid Engines, I would agree that there is nothing unseemly or even unethical.
