Rodrik vs. Stiglitz

Here is Dani’s account.  Maybe it’s unfair to let him do the describing, but his post accords with my impressions as well.  I call #1-3 in Rodrik’s favor, with #4 maybe a draw.

I specially agree with Rodrik in #2. In many occasions, it seems that abdicating responsibility is a political no-brainer when it comes to making touch choices. If things go bad, you can simply say “the IMF made me do it!”.

And “Joe’s account?”

From previous posts

“Last night I read my newly-arrived copy of Joseph Stiglitz’s The Roaring Nineties: A New History of the World’s Most Prosperous Decade. As you might expect from Stiglitz, it is well-written and smart.”

‘Let me start with the concessions. Joe Stiglitz is one of the most brilliant economic theorists of the last thirty years.”

Smart enough to answer for himself and hopefully he would be invited to do so though it does not seem clear that he blogs or participates in such discussions on-line. At least last time you crossed swords more directly on the Naomi Klien debacle, Professor Stiglitz got his two cents in. I do agree with much of what you say regarding the global economy but also appreciate the insights of Professor Stiglitz and would appreciate hearing his side of the issues. You might of at least included some links for Professor Stiglitz’s work on these matters.
