*Winter’s Bone*

It's the best movie we're likely to get this year.  It also has plenty of social science, including "the costs of cooperation," and zero marginal product labor.

It’s a fine movie. It was filmed in Missouri and received the benefit of Missouri’s 35% tax credit program, as did “Up in the Air.” I’ve discussed some aspects of it on my blog, Ozarks Law & Economy.

I wonder, *why* was Winter’s Bone so good. What circumstances must come together to produce a surprise Oscar nominee? Or is it all just random?
