Fires and Firefighters

Awesome statistic and its just what I figured! American people been lied to and scared. What a joke. We pay them to fight fires! I don't want the fire trucks 2 and 3 deep racing to the old man's house who bumped his head getting out of bed in the morning

I'm amazed at the stupidity and l total lack of knowledge coming from statements of fools on here about a job they know ABSOLUTELY nothing about. Example being a total moron stating about a ladder truck in Washington DC going on a call for a down homeless person. The I'll informed office type failed to know that trucks have fully trained paramedic/firefighters on board. As GW hospital keeping a fully staffed ambulance on call? It shows the persons ignorance. DC has a high volume of 911 calls. No hospital has responding medic units! None and every call has to be regarded as a emergency. More than once a " homeless " person that was ignored by passersby has died from a lack of a 911 call.

One major reason for more paid firefighters is that we are losing millions of volunteer firefighters across the country.

My state has 96% volunteer fire companies. We went from 300,000 volunteer firefighters 30 years ago. Today we have only 45,000.

The math is simple... http://www.wndu.com/home/headlines/Number-of-volunteer-firefighters-dwindling-280485372.html

Leave the medical calls to the medical professionals, not the firefighters who get overpaid to do the same job as the ambulance paramedics that don't get paid like royalty. Firefighters should get paid for fighting fires and if there are no fires then sthey should get pain like crap like the heros on the ambulance!! AN average cost of a fire based medical call is $2775 per call whereas an ambulance cost is $1200-$1500 per call and the public does not pay the cost. Again leave the medicine to the real paramedics that don't roll hose.

I noticed that Mr. Kelly is abnormally defensive. His statements imply that he is most likely a Fireman. Notice that I did not use "Fighter"? He reminds me of someone. I have a relative who couldn't get one passing grade in his first semester of his Freshman year at a Private University near us. He opted for a Junior College Fire Science Program. He was a C and D student in High School, but his buddy got him on a Department about 10 miles from his hometown. He has been promoted to "Lieutenant". His lack of Grammatical Skills are consistent with Mr. Kelly's. These people ARE the prototype for Suburban Firemen around here for sure. Illiterate Meatheads who lay around stuffing Sausages and Bacon down their throats until they are 300+ lbs and then the Taxpayers are paying for all their Obesity Meds. These people make Real Men want to Vomit.
