*The End of White Christian America*

by on June 26, 2016 at 2:55 pm in Books, Current Affairs, Political Science, Religion | Permalink

I have pre-ordered this forthcoming Robert P. Jones book, here is the Amazon description:

Robert P. Jones, CEO of the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), challenges us to grasp the profound political and cultural consequences of a new reality—that America is no longer a majority white Christian nation.

For most of our nation’s history, White Christian America (WCA)—the cultural and political edifice built primarily by white Protestant Christians—set the tone for our national policy and shaped American ideals. But especially since the 1990s, WCA has steadily lost influence, following declines within both its mainline and evangelical branches. Today, America is no longer demographically or culturally a majority white Christian nation.

Sam Tanenhaus called it (NYT): “…quite possibly the most illuminating text for this election year.”

More like the dismantling of America. Everyone hates the US, especially the media, fiction writers, hollywood.. and on and on…

2 Jan June 26, 2016 at 3:19 pm

Come on, jorod, you make it sound like it’s a bad thing. You’re not supposed to like a hehemon–you’re supposed to fear it.

3 Jan June 26, 2016 at 3:31 pm

*Hegemon. (Even spellcheck is afraid of them.)

4 Ryan June 26, 2016 at 11:31 pm

The USA overthrew a few democracies and installed a few terrible dictators, I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t like the US!

5 buddyglass June 27, 2016 at 8:47 am

This is an exaggeration. I think it’s fair to say that these types of folks generally like their ideal version of the U.S., which exists in partial form in certain geographies. They dislike “Sarah Palin’s America”, along with those who share a similar vision. That, and they’re not as enamored of America’s past as the you (and others) might prefer they be.

6 Hazel Meade June 27, 2016 at 12:05 pm

I’m right there with you.

I love America, but it’s not the vision of America held by Sarah Palin or her supporters, or Donald Trump or his supporters.

FWIW, it’s not the vision of America held by Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders.

Sarah Palin and Trump represent a kind of gross caricature of America, where responsible gun ownership is replaced with paranoid gun fetishism, where independence and individual responsibility is absent, and is replaced by redneck yokel stupidity, where decency and respect are replaced by deliberate boorishness and vulgarity.
They are the elevation and embrace of the Ugly American. All french fries and football and beer and flag waving and mega-churches.

7 Brad_sk June 27, 2016 at 2:06 pm

++ to what Hazel said.

8 JonFraz June 27, 2016 at 2:47 pm

Re: French fries

Make that “Freedom fries”. For those folk nothing “French” is good.

9 Hazel Meade June 27, 2016 at 5:20 pm

It’s also not Sander’s vision of an agrarian commune, or whatever Hill’s vision is, I should add.
I’m sure Hillary’s vision is some sort of technocratic socialism.

To be fair, Sander’s vision probably is more historically accurate than the Palin/Trump America, given that so many of the puritans and other religious immigrants during colonial times were based on a communal model. They all tried communism and got over it though, except for the Amish and a few other sects (and the Amish aren’t all that communist either).

But I’m not one for holding hands and sharing. I’m more of a Clint Eastwood Republican. I like wide open spaces, and keeping my neighbors a generous distance away.

And Hillary’s vision , whatever that is, a technocratic socialism, is no more appealing. Hillary vision is for people who know their place, how to keep it. A nice orderly society where everyone gets in the proper queue. Except the elites, who of course have the privilege of serving, among other things.

There’s no place for us lone wolves anymore. Everyone has to be a member of some tribe, and show their colors as flagrantly as possible.

10 House June 27, 2016 at 10:16 am

lol, the US was a major new branch the materialists created in the late 18th century top. Of course the Euro-bankers hated the US. Loved the Confederacy and really pushed them into wa………………

Oh, your talking about today. The US was built on secularism via its protestant upbringing. Liberalism and Capitalism. Trouble is, it doesn’t work. It despises tribalism and dies when people become tribal. This was a big part of the rage against Asiatic Communism(I ignore the original Soviet Union, that died way to fast and its internationalism basically never happened). Many bible thumpers think just like Asiatic Communists. They just can’t accept that.

The thing about religion is that it is inherited. It’s in my genes whether I will believe in Jesus, Allah, or nothing at all. Scientists have proven this by looking at intergenerational religious beliefs in families. People worried about the decline of Christianity should advocate for letting in more Latinos, because they are Christians and will have Christian offspring. I can’t help with the white part. Even though a lot of racial specialists say most Latinos are white, nobody believes them, so I think we’re screwed on that front.

12 required June 26, 2016 at 3:43 pm

racial specialists say most Latinos are white, nobody believes them.

Geographical specialists say Iberian Peninsula is part of Europe, nobody believes them.

13 Dylan June 26, 2016 at 4:02 pm

The issue is that most (politically salient) Latinos in America don’t have a terribly large fraction of Iberian ancestry. The Mayan/Aztec is more relevant.

14 anon June 26, 2016 at 6:33 pm

Earlier today someone answered “???” when I said traditional “races” (and racism) was pre-genomic. Case in point:

“This reference population is based on samples collected from Mexican-Americans living in Los Angeles, California, and is reflective of the broad range of genetic diversity that many ethnic populations in present-day North America carry. The mixture of regions reflected here is due to original groups that populated the Americas (36% Native American and 2% Southeast Asian) with more recent influence from integration with European Americans (28% Mediterranean, 20% Northern European, 8% Southwest Asian) and African Americans (4% sub-Saharan African). ”

For Los Angeles you are looking at people who are minority Native American.

15 Steve Sailer June 27, 2016 at 12:01 am

Hispanics were not broken out separately on the 1950s and 1960s Censuses but simply listed in amongst whites because Latino organizations like LULAC felt that was in their best interests. From the 1970 Census onward, Hispanics were granted a separate “ethnicity” category so they could call themselves white racially while still being eligible for affirmative action privileges due to being not Non-Hispanic ethnically.

It’s all part of the Flight from White that has been a big feature of American life for the last half century. For example, in the 1980s South Asians got themselves taken out of the Caucasian/white category and added to the Oriental category (renamed Asian) so that immigrant businessmen could get minority business development grants and racial preferences on government contracting.

We may see a Middle Eastern – North African category as soon as the 2020 Census, so more people can enjoy the legal privileges of not being white.

16 Ricardo June 27, 2016 at 7:52 am

Steve, this is a very incomplete history of racial policy and classification in the United States. The Supreme Court held that South Asians were not “white” in 1923 and were therefore ineligible to be naturalized as citizens. The idea that it only occurred to the government to not treat South Asians as white in the 1980s is false. See United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind.

17 Cooper June 27, 2016 at 6:39 pm

There hasn’t been a “flight from white”.

In fact, after a couple generations most Latinos start calling themselves “white” and intermarry at high rates.

With the massive drop-off in Latin American immigration that’s occurred since the financial crisis, I expect assimilation rates to increase, not decrease.

Moreover, many of today’s “white people” would not have been considered white by our great grandparents. Italians, Poles, Czechs, Greeks, Spaniards and Russians were considered ethnically “inferior” by the WASPs of 1920.

Today, the grandchildren of those “inferiors” are holding Trump For America signs.

18 Massimo Heitor June 26, 2016 at 4:36 pm

The classic meaning of “Latino” is someone who speaks a Latin derived romance language such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Italian. In the modern US, “Latino” generally means mestizo ethnicity. Or maybe someone from a mestizo majority nation. In the modern sense, no one considers Italian Americans or Italian Italians to be Latino even though they have closer ties to the Latin language.

Everyone generally agrees that ethnically Spanish Spaniards and people from Portugal are completely European white.

19 Florian June 27, 2016 at 9:33 am

“Everyone generally agrees that ethnically Spanish Spaniards and people from Portugal are completely European white.”

A lot of Northern Europeans don’t consider Spaniards, Frenchmen, Italians and the inhabitants of the Balkans white. I know some people who wouldn’t even consider Austrians white.

20 The Original D June 27, 2016 at 2:11 pm

It’s all relative. In Colombia people are very aware of who is “white” (direct Spanish descent).

21 Andre June 26, 2016 at 5:00 pm

White people decide who is white, it doesn’t really matter where your ancestors are from.

Your teams best bet is all this mixed Asian kids, let them in the club and buy your self a few more years. Then you can decide if these Hispanic kids that are 2 generations down from anyone that actually speaks Spanish can roll with you. Might be a tough sell, but it has happened before.

22 Tay June 26, 2016 at 6:26 pm

Hispanics are too dark for anyone to consider them “White” with a straight face. They say Mexicans are something like 60% European but I’m sure America is getting the poorer, more Indian stoop laborers. When they mix with Whites and produce 75% European kids, perhaps they can be let in. The Afrikanners have ~6% non-European ancestry and they are undoubtedly White. If we absorb completely the Hispanics and the Asians we can wind up with ~15% non-European descent. Will that be enough?

We may have to replace the concept of Whiteness with something else. I believe that the White race is the finest in the world and it is a damn shame America decided to brown itself, but it may be too late to walk back from. Perhaps we will identify in the future not as White but as something meaning “not Muslim, Black, or Jewish.” Eventually a code word will be created for this category, my suggestion is “non-ethnic.”

23 Steve Sailer June 27, 2016 at 5:24 am

Chicanos in Los Angeles used to be mostly European admixed with a modest amount of Amerindian genes. For example, 6’3″ Pancho Gonzales from the barrio in Los Angeles, was the world’s top tennis player from 1954-1962.

When I checked 9 years ago, however, there were no Mexican-Americans on the pro tennis tour:

Anthony Quinn, who went to high school in East L.A., was 6’1″. (He was half Irish).

The more recent Mexican immigrants to Los Angeles tend to be shorter and darker and more Amerindian from further south in Mexico. They don’t tend to be very athletic like Gonzales (or Lee Trevino or Nancy Lopez) or charismatic like Quinn (or Edward James Olmos or Cheech Marin or Linda Ronstadt), but I suspect that, all else being equal, they are less violent and more submissive than the old Chicanos from northern Mexico.

24 Hazel Meade June 27, 2016 at 12:11 pm

Hispanics are too dark for anyone to consider them “White” with a straight face.

I hear Italians tan just as well.

25 Steve Sailer June 27, 2016 at 5:13 am

“White people decide who is white,”

No. The federal government decides. And the federal government usually decides eventually in favor of whatever the organized non-white groups want. For example, the federal category used to be Asians / Pacific Islanders, but the Pacific Islanders weren’t getting enough affirmative action because the Asians have much higher test scores and incomes, so Pacific Islander groups got the feds to break them out separately from the 2000 Census onward.

Sometimes this has happened in the reverse. In the 1950s, the Census Bureau thought it would be interesting to count up statistics by religious ethnicity, but Jewish-American groups, not wanting outsiders to know how unoppressed and wealthy they were, threw a fit, so the Census permanently dropped the idea.

In general, there has been a Flight from White in order to get more affirmative action. Jews, on the other hand, strongly oppose any government data on Jewish representation in elite positions because that could lead to calls for Jews to sacrifice proportionately to the under-represented groups. In the early years of affirmative action, many leading neoconservative Jewish intellectuals like Nathan Glazer were opposed to racial preferences because they thought it would be bad for the Jews. But, over time, it became apparent that modern racial quotas hurt marginal whites, who tend not to be Jewish. So, right of center Jewish intellectuals like Glazer are now far less worked up over quotas than during the 1970s.

Non-Hispanic whites take remarkably little interest in these machinations intended, over the last 47 years, to increase the flow of racial preferences, even though they end up paying for most of the affirmative action. One reason is because while Hispanics have La Raza, blacks have countless black racial activist groups, and Jews have extremely well-funded groups, but there are no respectable groups allowed to advocate for the welfare of whites in general.

As we saw in Sacramento on Sunday, if a few white people gather to demonstrate in favor of white people’s interests, it’s pretty much okay these days for a mob to beat them with sticks.

26 House June 27, 2016 at 10:24 am

lol, your faggot. you can’t even be a “racialist” properly. The Federal Government is the one that decided anybody not in Europe is non-white.Hispanics are not white(though some are, you know, really). As we saw in Sacramento, they didn’t have shit show up. Shows who is winning the pr campaign. White trash “nationalism” doesn’t work. They were fat, out of shape losers who got out flanked. Called them “leftists” when they should have called themselves leftists.

The counter protesters are typical bourgeois leg humpers. Radicals my ass.

I could see an argument for religiosity in general being somewhat heritable, but not specific religious beliefs. That’s just kooky.

33 Dave June 27, 2016 at 9:37 am

Scientists once believed the world was flat. Religion is only pasted down through generations if the parents take a vested interest in creating an environment where the children will believe in the religion in question. I set an example for my children by attending church weekly and being active in the church. Those parents that don’t set that example early on have a much more difficult time getting their children involved in church later on. I personally have seen this play out numerous times.

34 JonFraz June 27, 2016 at 2:48 pm

Huh? There may be a trend toward religiosity in general that is hereditary, but specific religious beliefs are culturally transmitted.

35 prior_test2 June 26, 2016 at 3:17 pm

38 Josh June 27, 2016 at 10:34 am

You’re pride in your own ignorance is stunning. “Catholic ethnics” is an important sociological category for understanding the 20th century. It is not something made up by sailer, but something the powers that be debated and took into account when creating a wide range of domestic policies ranging from fha loans and public housing to the insterstAte highway commission and urban renewal.

39 prior_test2 June 26, 2016 at 3:20 pm

Strangely, though, a significant number of Christians believe that the Mormons are not actually Christian, meaning that the fertility of the followers of Prophet Smith is a problem in this context, not a solution. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Smith

40 Denver June 26, 2016 at 3:56 pm

I am an atheist. However it is plain that 1) Christians can decide who is and isn’t based up similar/dissimilar beliefs. Christianity was defined at the 2nd Council of Nicea in 787 CE. Roman Catholics, Eastern (Greek and Russian) Orthodox and the main branches of Protestantism (Lutherian, Calvinist, Anglican, and their offshoots) all accept the tenants laid down at Nicea. The Mormons do not. I will encourage you to make your own determination.

41 Thiago Ribeiro June 26, 2016 at 4:38 pm

Poor Christ, He had to wait almost a millenium to be told what His religion were like.

42 Rich Berger June 26, 2016 at 5:24 pm

The Council of Nicea took place in 325 AD. One result was the Nicene Creed, which summarized the essential beliefs of Roman Catholics and which is recited during Mass.

43 Stormy Dragon June 26, 2016 at 5:29 pm

What of the Oriental Orthodox churches (e.g. Coptic Christians) that participated in the first three ecumenical councils but not in the later ones? Were they not Christian the whole time, or did their Christianity magically disappear in the 8th century?

46 Careless June 26, 2016 at 9:23 pm

America hasn’t been majority WASP in a century

47 Anoni June 27, 2016 at 12:57 pm

WASP demonstrates total ignorance of the American nations. All of us scots-irish are celts, not anglo-saxons at all. But we are still very much a part of WCA.

48 Cooper June 27, 2016 at 6:44 pm

WASPs pushed through the 1924 Immigration law to keep out those pesky Italian Catholic, Russian Orthodox and Polish Jewish immigrants.

Virtually all of those people are considered white today. Many of them are voting for Trump.

49 Lukas G. June 26, 2016 at 3:22 pm

Millions of migrants coming to US to enjoy the society created by the WCA – and then that society is not really there anymore and will just keep on becoming more and more like the places where the migrants came from.

It is funny cause it is the truth.

50 Jan June 26, 2016 at 3:29 pm

Where can the good WCA supporters go? I think there was a small town in North Dakota for them, but it seems they were kicked out. Any adequately homogeneous white Christian countries left? Was thinking Russia but they actually have a lot of Muslims. Then was thinking Brazil but they have a lot of blacks. And we know Europe is mostly godless these days (cept Allah).

51 8 June 26, 2016 at 5:28 pm

A better question is where all the atheists and non-Christians will go if the Muslims show up in numbers, since mass execution is their future across Europe, America, and one would expect, South America and Africa too once those civilizations fall. I suspect the Chinese and Indians might hold out for awhile with nukes, but the numbers will be overwhelming at some point.

52 Stormy Dragon June 26, 2016 at 5:33 pm

Not on board with the original comment but is this really true following Orlando, San Bernadino, Ft Hood, the Boston marathon, Paris and the real and ongoing mass executions in Syria, Iraq and Libya today.

Rejecting one absurdity doesn’t mean replacing it with another.

55 Ex-Pralite Monk June 27, 2016 at 8:52 am

Worrying about muslim executions is like worrying about your home getting attacked by an indian raiding party.

I was visiting Orlando the night of the shooting, 15 minutes up the road from the nightclub that was attacked. Pretty sure that’s closer I’ve been to any Indian raiding party.

56 Jan June 26, 2016 at 6:24 pm

57 Tony Cohen June 27, 2016 at 6:41 am

America is more than 33% Muslim now…wow…120 million Muslims in America…that’s an amazing claim

58 Floccina June 26, 2016 at 7:02 pm

Ireland, Poland, Argentina and many more but I say that in 3 generations more descendants of muslims will be evangelical christians than practicing muslims. That may be true of descendants of Roman Catholics in the USA already though the number of non-practising catholics is huge very few give a second thought to the dictates of the pope.

A pro-Clinton press mis-presented it as Bush having never seen a laser checkout scanner before.

77 jeans June 26, 2016 at 9:37 pm

No one has revoked Christian churches’ property tax exemption. I should know–I run a Christian church. The only churches that lose their exemption are the ones who don’t follow the rules, e.g. Churches can’t support and campaign for any one candidate in an election. Too many churches tell their people who to vote for….and that’s not allowed under the property tax exemption laws.

78 liberalarts June 26, 2016 at 9:42 pm

The main thing Britain has done about religion is stop having a religion.

Recent analysis of the British Social Attitudes survey by the Benedict XVI Centre for Religion and Society at St Mary’s University, Twickenham on religious belief in England and Wales indicated the more people identified as no religion than as Christian.

For England and Wales as a whole:

19.8% Anglican
8.3% Catholic
15.7% Other Christian
43.8% All Christian
7.7% Non-Christian Religion
48.5% No Religion

The non religious percentage was much higher than in the census but the survey prompted by naming some religions in the question. Which would tend to inflate the number so identifying.

The only areas in the survey with a substantial Non-Christian Religion group were Inner London (21.1%) and Outer London (21.7%) Greater London was strongly pro remain. The next highest level was East Midlands at 8.3%.

The least religious survey area was Wales

13.6% Anglican
5.1% Catholic
20.0% Other Christian
38.7% All Christian
1.7% Non-Christian Religion
59.5% No Religion

The survey also asked the question “Apart from such special occasions as Weddings, Funerals and Baptisms how often nowadays do you attend services or meetings connected with your religion?”

39.2% of self identified Catholics said never or practically never.
60.1% of self identified Anglicans said never or practically never.
45.5% of self identified Methodists said never or practically never.
28.0% of self identified Baptists said never or practically never.

Even as poverty and despair grip an increasing part of America, white evangelical Christians go off to far away places to help eradicate poverty and save souls. Why, when poverty and despair are just down the street? And in the growing independent evangelical churches, often called “community churches”, social gospel is non-existent, replaced by versions of the prosperity gospel. I often comment about the history of sectarianism in Christianity (it’s embedded in the canon, especially the Gospel of John and the three Letters of John). That this “Christian nation” might be at odds with itself is a surprise? [Bart Ehrman, the New Testament scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill, likes to begin his many lectures around the country with evidence of the New Testament ignorance of his mostly evangelical Christian students. It’s always amusing, and depressing.]

rayward, Brant Pitre does a number on Ehrman in this book: https://www.amazon.com/Case-Jesus-Biblical-Historical-Evidence/dp/0770435483

I’m skeptical of the claim that sectarianism is inherent in Christianity, and see nothing in the Gospel of John or the letters of John to persuade me otherwise. Seeing Ehrman’s name attached makes me even more skeptical. He seems to be one of the now multitudinous biblical scholars more interested in destroying the faith than in objective study. Or if you prefer, if truly disinterested study is impossible, then he has taken the antagonist’s rather than the lover’s stance.

Answer: because they view the American poor as being poor by virtue of their own laziness, past mistakes, etc. The foreign poor are seen as being poor by way of circumstances outside their control. So they’re seen as more virtuous. Also, evangelism is often a component of humanitarian work, and the poor outside the U.S. are seen as more receptive to Christianity.

87 Floccina June 27, 2016 at 9:28 am

Also the churches that I have belonged to have helped the poorer member quite a bit. In fact I would say that regular church attendance at almost any church will pull one out of poverty.

88 House June 27, 2016 at 10:04 am

I doubt it. If they went, your church would be dead.

To be followed by the companion book, ‘The Beginning of Black Christian Africa’.

Off-topic note to my fans: this week I go into the remote Greek mountains (no cell phone, weak GPS, illegal metal detector) to search for buried treasure. There will be all kinds of good Samaritans following me from a safe distance, akin to the Mexicans in the great Graham Greene novel, “The Power and the Glory”, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_and_the_Glory, who patiently followed the anti-hero of the story, waiting for their chance to score. So, If I don’t return, do not contact our host and ask he find me. It will not do any good, since it will lead the Greek tax police to ask awkward questions in the unlikely event I actually do find treasure. Instead, don’t assume the worse, it’s probably I’m just taking a long vacation in the mountains. Relax. The probability of me getting off’d by my own friends and relatives is, by Balkan standards, very very low, probably less than 5%, with 95% confidence. 🙂 And you can thank Greek capital controls and Greek tax law for this entire fiasco: people here store money in the form of cash, gold, valuables outside the bank system because the Greek government will tax, at 33%, any money deposited into a bank unless it is ‘sourced’, which for a non-salaried person is very hard to do. So if you take money out of a Greek bank, buy gold, store it, sell it and then try and redeposit this money back into a Greek bank you’ll be taxed at 33% withholding tax, minimum. Care to invest in Greece? I didn’t think so.

By which you mean it will turn away from Trump, since Trump is a phenomenon of the white working class declining in Christian religious practice.

Trump is obviously a symptom of the decline in White Christian America. He is the example of what post-Christian right wingers look like, as in other countries. His voters were overwhelmingly those whose believe in Christendom but not Christianity, a type quite often seen on the European continent these days.

The point of AA is to provide patronage to a small selection of blacks, who are thenceforth invested in that system. It’s to provide a bit of amour-propre to self-aggrandizing whites (who fancy themselves virtuous for giving patronage to blacks in lieu of miscellaneous others who meet the criteria) and to blacks, who are told implicitly they provide something Special due to their being. The gentry whites who run this scam aren’t going to stop despising working-class whites or tell blacks that they’re just ordinary non-magic human beings.

Robert P. Jones, CEO of the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), challenges us to grasp the profound political and cultural consequences of a new reality—that America is no longer a majority white Christian nation.

The worst aspect of this election is all the focus on versions of Charles Murray Coming Apart. Don’t most African-Americans go to Christian Churches? Living in California, there a lot of Catholic Latino Churches. Why is America no longer a Christian nation is the concern not just White Christian? (Additionally, when told HRC can not win the working class vote, I remind people her strongest supporters were the Southern African-American working class voters.)

Is there anything new to learn in a book like this? The topic interests me, but if you follow people like Rod Dreher and Ross Douthat you’ve known this for a while. Even the mainstream media has covered this fairly extensively if perhaps superficially.

120 Jan June 26, 2016 at 6:55 pm

I feel bad for Ross, because he is one of a very small share of the religious population who converted to Catholicism. He thinks there is some way to save the sect, or at some least way to make it acceptable. But of course he’s wrong. I encourage anyone who denies this to review the Boston Globe coverage of the Catholic church since 1995–written primarily by Catholics.

My daughter is Catholic, and although I would never speak a negative word about it in her presence until she is over 16 and directly asks, I am almost certain she will leave the faith. There are multiple reasons it is in decline in this country.

Yawn. Good, right-thinking Americans have been gloating over demographic change and scaremongering over the inevitable supposed reactionary backlash from “white christians” ( TC and the author must have cleverly come up with these code words for what they really mean, the half-wit hillbilly heroin addicts of the hinterlands) for decades. Remember Bill Clinton back in 1998 being drowned in applause at a commencement speech when he announced “In a little more than 50 years, there will be no majority race in the United States.” http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=56140 Ah, wonderful trip back down memory lane, to a time when a President could actually also say “Let me be clear: I also think it’s wrong to condone illegal immigration that flouts our laws, strains our tolerance, taxes our resources. Even a nation of immigrants must have rules and conditions and limits, and when they are disregarded, public support for immigration erodes in ways that are destructive to those who are newly arrived and those who are still waiting patiently to come.” and not be pilloried by the right-thinkers. Trump is just 20 years too late.

People with beautiful wives and young sons go to gay clubs all the time because…

130 HL June 27, 2016 at 2:25 pm

because the mentally ill make this shit up whole cloth

WASHINGTON (AP) — FBI investigators so far have not turned up persuasive evidence that Orlando gunman Omar Mateen was gay or pursuing gay relationships, according to two government officials familiar with the investigation.

The FBI began looking into that possibility after media reports last week quoted men as saying that Omar Mateen had reached out to them on gay dating apps and had frequented the gay nightclub where the June 12 massacre took place. One man claimed to be Mateen’s gay lover in an interview with Univision that aired this week, while another recalled Mateen as a regular at the Pulse club who tried to pick up men.

But the officials say the FBI, which has conducted about 500 interviews and is reviewing evidence collected from Mateen’s phone, has not found concrete evidence to corroborate such accounts nearly two weeks into the investigation. They also cautioned that the investigation is ongoing and that nothing has formally been ruled out.

In an attempt to find an account connected to the killer, the site, Adam4Adam combed through the profile photos of every one of its 300,000 Florida members and researched 20 email addresses used by Mr. Mateen over the years that the company said had been provided by the F.B.I.

Adam4Adam came up with nothing.

Another Orlando man, a Navy veteran named Kevin West, told The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post that he had communicated with Mr. Mateen for about a year on Jack’d, a gay chat and dating app.

In an interview, Mr. West refused to share any of the messages or pictures or explain which app he had used to communicate with Mr. Mateen. He became combative when pressed. “I don’t need to prove anything to anyone,” Mr. West said. “If I said it, it’s true.”

One of the first people to bring up the idea that Mr. Mateen could have been gay was his ex-wife, Sitora Yusufiy, who, a day after the massacre, told The New York Times that her former husband often made angry comments about homosexuality.

“If you know anything about psychology, you know that people that have a really, really strong resentment or above-average hate toward something, it’s because deep inside that’s what they truly are,” she said in an interview at her home in Boulder, Colo. “In Islam, it’s true that there is very low tolerance for homosexuality. He may not have been able to be himself.”

But she added that she was speculating, and that there was nothing in their intimate life on which she had based that hunch.

Hector Camacho, the chief executive of Jack’d, said the company was cooperating with the F.B.I.

A company spokesman, Jeff Dorta, said several television networks that sought to authenticate the report forwarded screen shots of what was purported to be Mr. Mateen’s Jack’d profile page, which they said they had received from a source making the allegation. Mr. Dorta said that a technical analysis determined that the profile page was probably not created by Mr. Mateen.

“While we are not at liberty to comment on any specifics, I can tell you that as of now, utilizing the information Jack’d has been provided, we have not been able to substantiate that Omar Mateen was a Jack’d user,” Mr. Dorta said.

Why do a group of people who trend towards mental illness and narcissism make stuff up? Beats me!

131 freethinker June 27, 2016 at 12:07 am

Why bother if America remains white or becomes black, brown or yellow, as long as the values which enabled it to prosper re well entrenched. The possible erosion of these values is What you Americans should be worried about

132 Steve Sailer June 27, 2016 at 12:08 am

Americans used to valorize “majority rule” but then switched to giving the highest preference to “minority rights.” One interesting question whether when white Christians are a minority, will they become eligible for minority rights or will they continue to be treated as the “legacy majority” still responsible for all bad things suffered by anybody in the 21st century who is not a straight cisgender white Christian male.

I can guess Ta-Nehisi Coates’ answer to that question. Will anybody dare differ with him?

133 freethinker June 27, 2016 at 1:37 am

Minority rights are only for present day minorities. Once they become a majority they will clamp down on the rights of the new minorities. in particular whites are never entitled to minority rights. They will always be deemed a privileged lot by the non-whites even they are just a dozen of them left.

134 Steve Sailer June 27, 2016 at 5:58 am

Reading Genius T. Coates, it doesn’t appear that he’ll be terribly flexible intellectually about changing demographic realities. He’s kind of locked in cognitively and intends to wage race war on traditional lines forever.

135 Art Deco June 27, 2016 at 9:30 am

One wag who read his most recent missive said you had to get well into it (adolescence or young adulthood, I cannot recall) ‘ere you find a single anecdote which incorporates a non-black individual treating him poorly (and he was a youth of many miseries). The man grew up in the Baltimore slums, and it’s never penetrated his black-particularist noggin that the quality of life of the Baltimore slums wasn’t ruined by white people, but by black people the city fathers lacked the funds and institutional commitment to deter, incapacitate, and punish. I was a resident of Baltimore when Coates was a boy. It certainly penetrated my noggin and that of my neighbors that the same sort of hoodlum (in diluted numbers) was making our world an anxious place to walk around in at night, but we weren’t future Geniuses.

136 Steve Sailer June 27, 2016 at 5:46 pm

The only anecdote of white racism in Teh-Genius Coates’ latest award-winning memoir is one about him and his 4-year-old son riding an escalator on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and the dawdling child is blocking the exit of the escalator causing a pile-up and a White Woman says “Come on” to Coates II.

I think it would make a good Seinfeld episode: Elaine says “Come on” in an irritated voice to black child and then she becomes the Face of White Racism when the father of the child spins it into a Pulitzer Prize-winning book that everybody in America is supposed to take solemnly.

137 Jermaine June 27, 2016 at 1:54 am

Pretty scary that even people like TC are recommending this stuff. 8 years ago, I thought we were all headed for the post-racial world. Now, we have libertarian economics professors lamenting the loss of “Whiteness” publicly with impunity.

Would you write the same article about the loss “red-haired Christian America?” or “right-handed Christian America”? Race is meaningless, only values and merit matter. I thought this was well-established, but it depresses me to no end to see how far we’ve moved back in the last decade.

155 The Anti-Gnostic June 27, 2016 at 9:14 am

“only values and merit matter”

This is a prevalent theme inside the Hajnal lines. Outside, not so much.

156 House June 27, 2016 at 10:11 am

This is quite untrue. Especially with black births in decline. White’s will be the majority race well into the 22nd century. The “Christian” word represents the problem. The world is turning more Christian, while White’s are less. This angers the degenerate protestants.

Now it is time to return to spirituality and away from the never existing timeline that white’s duped themselves into believing.

Thank God it’s over.

If “White Christian America” = Donald Trump, then good riddance.

160 The Anti-Gnostic June 27, 2016 at 12:20 pm

Paradoxically, Donald Trump represents the best hope in this election for holding the U.S.’s Propositional Nationhood together, because it depends on having high-trust, white Christians with a super-majority to enforce it. Once Queen Hill gets in and opens the gates a la Merkel, that Proposition will not survive another generation. The future has already been born in a lot of places and it’s going to be Rio de Janiero, not Malibu.

Incidentally, the U.S. is the world’s third largest nation. Only China and India are more populous. Business loves it. After all, if you can sell a $1 gewgaw to 320 million people, you’ll be rich. Economists love it, because you need a large GDP if you intend to print money and buy your own debt with it. Churches love it, because they need to fill their pews. But populous super-states are actually pretty dysfunctional. Lower-density, lower-population locales are generally nicer, which is why people emigrate to them.

161 Hazel Meade June 27, 2016 at 5:05 pm

We’d have a white Christian supermajority if only we decided that Hispanic Catholics are white and Christian.

162 Art Deco June 27, 2016 at 5:08 pm

165 Urso June 27, 2016 at 12:25 pm

I think one of the reasons the left is in histrionics about the Brexit vote is that it challenges one of their core beliefs – the inevitability of their victory, the idea that society is inexorably progressing in one direction, their preferred direction, and the most conservatives can do is slow down, impede, the rate of change. But Brexit went beyond that, it was an actual reversal of policy. That’s a real threat to this “inevitable progress” view of history. I think this is particularly true of younger people. Maybe if your living recollection only goes back 8-10 years, all you know is a string of victories for your side, which you naturally assume will last forever. Over a longer period of time you learn that it doesn’t work that way.

166 Ed June 27, 2016 at 3:34 pm

Allowing too many immigrants in the 20th century that were hostile or nurtured grievances to the Anglo world is what did America in. Letting women vote just compounded the error. Hopefully at 38 I won’t be around when things break apart violently.

I cant help but wonder if there is a quiet war, just behind the curtains, between the white Nordic races, and the brown Eadmite races.
It seems that we whites are being bread into one common global race, and any vestige of the Northern races is slowly being wiped out.
Race, creed, and culture, wiped out.

Hitler: He may have been/ very likely was, a high priest of the Norse religion.
Hitler’s goal; to destroy the edamites, in hope to save the northern races. IE: Defeat 666 before he could be born. IE: To defeat the forces of red magic before ….they…. could defeat the forces of white magic.

What Hitler did not understand, was that wars are fought with money.
The side with the most money wins.
Money, comes from banks, in the form of ….. loans.

Hitler’s money, which he used to fight WW11, came from the same banks which financed the Allied side.
The banks simply loaned a dollar to the Axis, and two dollars to the allies, then they sat back and watched as the allies slowly won.

The very bankers who financed Hitler, destroyed him.
The bankers are, ………..or they are very closely allied to, the edamites. ( By way of freemasonry .)

And edamite is a “red” , what you would call a practitioner of black magic.
A Nordic is a “white,” a practitioner of white magic.

I could talk about white Christianity, but only if I stay on this forum long enough.
But I can say part of it quickly; Jesus…….IS……. 666 and that is the Bible’s warning of The Great Deception.
