Since there's no comments on the next article, I have to admit that when I saw the article, my response was Walter who?

One thing that seldom seems to be brought out in discussions of prizes vs. grants is that to really be sustainable, the prize amount would have to go up substantially. The amount of most prizes is not sufficient to fund the actual work.

I do feel, however, that a large portion of research awards, at least in my area, are a waste of money.
