Haiti fact of the day

Haiti's population is expected to jump from the current 9.6 million to 13.4 million in 2050, marking a 40 percent increase, according to data released Monday.

The new demographic figures take into account the many deaths stemming from the Jan. 12 earthquake, which claimed between 230,000 and 300,000 lives and rendered 1.5 million homeless.

Here is more.

This kind of crazy population growth will probably cause yet another drop in the overall quality of life in Haiti.

Is that a Malthusian equilibrium? Will there just be a much larger population at subsistence level? Is there a prediction for a shift in the production function that allows a larger population with no changes in the amount of land and likely degradation of the quality of land?

How good were 40-year forecasts of Russian population made in 1985?

Oh yeah, it has nothing to do with the religious right and the abortion=murder condom=fun(which is bad).

No, we haven't been solely focused on reducing scary black people population.

But, condom distribution: http://www.housingworks.org/blogs/detail/housing-works-on-the-ground-in-haiti-funding-and-plans-needed/

Does that not count because it stop AIDS too?
