Alan Krueger, RIP

You probably all know by now that Alan Krueger has passed away, nonetheless it seems appropriate to offer tribute and condolences.  Alan and I were together in the same year at Harvard in the economics Ph.D program, and although he was on track to win a Nobel Prize and I have read most of his papers and books, I always associate him more with those years in the mid-1980s.  I am very saddened by the news.

adding to the pain, reliable sources are saying Mr. Krueger ended his own life.
that is always deeply troubling, but even more so for a person of such achievement ....
RIP

Ouch, I was wondering because he was still relatively young. Quite a loss.

Ӏ do believe all of the іdeas you have offered for your post.
Theу arrе verry convincing and can definitely worҝ.
Still, the posts are too quick for starters.
Couⅼd you please prolong them a bit from next time?
Thank yoᥙ for the post.

For most recent news you have to visit internet and on internet I found
this site as a most excellent web page for most up-to-date updates.

I visited various websites but the aujdio feature
for audio songs current at this web page is
really marvelous.

What a shame, he did always look depressed

I often think of Terry Bradshaw talking about his struggles with depression. The man won FOUR Super Bowls.

You are your brain.

Tyler - if someone wanted to effectively donate in his honor to an organization that was doing work to actually prevent suicides, how would you recommend going around identifying that organization and evaluating its effectiveness? Thanks.

This is really sad and raises many questions. I met him last year and I had the plan to talk about him in my class. But how you remember a person who has killed (himself)?

You honor his memory like anyone else who died.

You remember him the same way we remember Van Gogh, Sylvia Plath, Earnest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf and all of the other brilliant people who died by suicide — studying their work, learning from their ideas, and becoming inspired by their creativity, insights, curiosity and humanity to contribute to our world and leave it a better place.

Virginia Woolf was a nasty piece of work.

Before I fussed about Hemingway I'd like to know whether there was truth in the suggestion that he was a KGB man. Even if there wasn't I wouldn't fuss much. I always found his writing inauthentic.

I feel sorry for poor old van Gogh, though, I'll give you that.

Religion is a good guide for many things, but not for the current case.
Being more specific, ignore the unfavorable view of suicide set by many religions. Let compassion fill your heat and mind stigma.

I am sorry for your loss of a friend, Mr. Cowen.

It sounds as though you are suspect of suicide that
I have yet to find article describing details of his death.
Was invloved an #UNdocumented #ObamaBinLaden #CrookedHillaryRotten #RapeyBillClinton's economics perhaps had informatiom regarding the $6BILLION missing during #CrookedHillarysRotten term monetizing @StateDept
Was he Hung? Without suicide Note? #ClintonDeadPoolMemo ended Hitman Suicided Notes since Peter Smith's mamaluke clinto croney:
"NO FOULPLAY WHATSOEVER...Insurance running out"
Who is irritated that #ClintonCroney suicides are suspicious?
Who if committing suicide puts motive that would
exclude the very insurance payout being used as a motive?
It also sounds like you may have suicided questions re Alan Kruger
a prime target of the #ToxicCorrupt #RicoActRacketeering #TerroristOrganization aka the #DemonicrapPotty #ClintonDeadPool

KT,

It is reported in the obituary in the Washington Post written by the highly credible Harrison Smith that he died by a suicide, although with no further details. I did not know him well, but did know him and respected him. Whether one agreed with the results of some of his work, he was clearly an honorable and friendly person who was a highly productive professional economist. He is a loss, and we should all be sorry for his family for whom this sad outcome is the hardest to deal with. Clearly he had many things going for him, but even successful and admirable people have things happen to them that can drive them to such an unfortunate act.

BTW, I seriously doubt that whatever it was it had anything to do with either the Clintons or Obama. He was a policy adviser, not involved in their personal financial matters.

you shouldn't take the MR comments seriously, they are a disaster nowadays. full of trolls.

you do take constructivism in the foundations of mathematical economics seriously and should follow our meme page

Tyler,

If you're out there, please, pretty please, see if you can get a Robert Sapolsky. His work on depression, stress, and the biology of human behavior must get out to a broader audience. He's a very lively, as well as enlightening, interviewee.

And yes the Krueger news is sad. Very sad.

Now, get that Sapolsky interview.

... get a Robert Sapolsky [interview]."

Of course the one thing the media is remembering him for is his discredited paper with Card.

What are his other, better accomplishments?
